The event prides itself on being great fun for runners of all types regardless of experience and normally has over 3,000 runners taking part. There are serious runners, chariot racers, Visually impaired runners, recreational runners, and runners in Fancy dress with a huge £300 prize for the best fancy-dress outfit! The Mad Dog 10k in 2018 raised £12,900 for local charities. Donations for the 2019 event are yet to be allocated but with a record number of participants, a significant amount of money is expected to be raised. The run takes place along the Southport shore line and at the 4k mark where Shirley was marshalling the runners, she was greeted by an Elvis impersonator! Elvis was also volunteering to help encourage the runners to get over the line although we are unsure as to whether this helped or hindered some of the participants final times!
