10 questions with Joe Dillon, Energy Consultant.

  1. What was your first job? My first paid work was at Glastonbury Music Festival when I was 16. I had to hand out lanyards to VIP’s back stage, it was probably the most eye-opening experience I had at that age.
  2. How did you get into the building industry?I left college at 18 and wanted to get straight into work and earning money, the opportunity came about to work for Base Energy and I knew it was for me. It was my first and only job interview.
  3. What project are you currently working on?I have recently worked on some domestic energy advice for a very large project on the North Liverpool Dock, a site which in the near future will be a hub for commercial and residential opportunities; an exciting prospect for the city.
  4. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Not to panic when things go unexpectedly wrong; stay calm, think critically and you will find a solution. Also, get your head over the ball when taking a penalty.
  5. Coffee or tea? Can’t decide, Tea!
  6. Proudest achievement to date? Finally starting a band after 12 years of playing guitar.
  7. How do you like to unwind?Listen to music, play music, preferably with a cold beer, and friends.
  8. What would you say to young people entering the industry? There is a lot to take in when you first start off in the industry, but stick with it, do some bedtime reading in whatever area you’re in, and you’ll be a lot more confident in the work.
  9. If you ruled the world for a day…I would cancel social media for the duration and see what people might get up to instead.
  10. What’s the best thing about working at Base?Probably the team, and also the work is rewarding when you have an interesting project, especially within my hometown of Liverpool.
