10 questions with Shirley Hunter, Operations Director

1. What was your first job?
At the age of 15 I had a Saturday job at a local bakery and then worked in Café on a Sunday.

 
2. How did you get into the building industry?
Started off in global shipping industry then developed an interest in construction/ sustainability industry and was head-hunted by Base in 2016, to assist with their expansion programme.

 
3. What is your day to day role?
General operations to ensure smooth running of the company, including operational, financial and H.R. matters.

 
4. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
If you can’t change things or influence things – move on.

 
5. Coffee or tea?
Coffee.

 
6. Proudest achievement to date?
Involvement in District 1180 Rotary International.

 
7. How do you like to unwind?
Long walks with the dog and nice country pubs!

 
8. What would you say to young people entering the industry?
Amazing opportunities, but you will only get out of it what you put in!

 
9. If you ruled the world for a day…
Prefer more realistic goals.

 
10. What’s the best thing about working at Base?
Working with colleagues who all have the same goals, ethics and sense of humour.
