Sustainability Statements

Sustainability Statements

What is a Sustainability Statement?

A Sustainability Statement is a report for planning which details a proposed building’s commitment and strategy to meet the standards set out in its local authority planning policy.

The Statement will concentrate on several key areas, including:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • BREEAM
  • Climate Change Adaptation
  • Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDs)
  • Biodiversity
  • Water resources
  • Material
  • Construction

The statement demonstrates how local planning policy targets can be met and offers guidance on which actions should be taken if the scheme is not meeting it’s mandatory requirements.

Why do you need it?

Your local authority may request you submit a Sustainability Statement as part of a proposed planning application and it can also add real value as well as minimise any potential issues from the outset.
